Antonis Zacharakis was born in November 1969 in Rethymnon Crete. He took his first percussion lessons from drum teacher Nikos Antonakakis and conductor Kostas Apostolakis at the Rethymnon Philharmonic Orchestra in 1983 and later from Nikos Touliatos at the Percussion Workshop.
He is an active member of the Rethymnon Experimental Symphony Orchestra under conductor Babis Pramateftakis. He is a founding member of the music band ‘Fones tou Notou’ (South Sounds), he plays percussions & drums and has arranged and orchestrated a great deal of polyphonic songs. With this band he has also performed in several concerts with composer Stamatis Kraounakis, songwriter Lina Nikolakopoulou and the band ‘Trifono’
He has collaborated with Cretan musicians Kostas Verdinakis, Soula Daskalomarkaki, Stratos Gounakis, Nektarios Kostakis and many others. In recent years he has been working with Cretan singer and lyra player Stelios Bikakis.He lives in Rethymnon where he works as a percussion teacher at the Rethymnon Philharmonic Orchestra.As a composer Antonis Zacharakis writes in different music styles: modern, traditional, solo, chamber music, choral and symphonic music. He has written music for theatrical plays, short films and has orchestrated for many recordings
